I had the privilege of photographing Amanda and Owen’s very special wedding day on August 6, 2016. The day was full of laughter and tender moments as two families rejoiced at the love shared by Amanda and Owen, which is a love ever apparent in their sweet affection toward one another. Over the course of the day, I captured so many beautiful photos of these two and their closest family and friends, and it is my sincere hope that Amanda and Owen will cherish these images for years to come.

The ceremony was held at St. Andrew’s Wesley United Church, a stunning church featuring a cathedral-style design, beautiful stained glass, and the longest aisle in Vancouver. The church boasts an old-world charm that reverberates throughout the building from the moment you step through the door, and it certainly offered a picturesque backdrop for Amanda and Owen’s wedding. The wedding ceremony itself was an intimate occasion in which Amanda and Owen were wed surrounded by their family and friends.

Throughout the ceremony and the reception, there were pieces of Nigerian wedding customs woven into the fabric of the occasion. Owen was born in Benin City, which is located in Nigeria. There, the bride and groom are treated as royalty on their wedding day. So, bits of Benin culture were found throughout the ceremony, adding a unique dynamic to the unifying of Amanda, Owen, and their families.

After the wedding ceremony concluded, I traveled with the wedding party to Stanley Park. Within Vancouver’s Stanley Park, visitors can find more than 400 hectares of stunning scenery surrounded by vistas of the Vancouver Harbour and English Bay. People from around the world come to see Stanley Park for its monuments, landmarks, artwork, and natural views of scenery and wildlife.

Amanda and Owen chose the stunning Rose Garden in which to take photos. The Stanley Park Rose Garden is almost a century old and has more than 3,000 rose bushes. This carefully curated garden features a beautiful arbor and sloping grounds. Within the Rose Garden, we captured photo after photo of Amanda, Owen, and their wedding party.

After we took pictures at Stanley Park Rose Garden, we headed to Sunrise Golf Course Surrey for the reception.

The reception was a joyful occasion with food catered by 5 Star Catering, a DJ playing all the couple’s favorite music, and jubilant celebration. Wine flowed as the bridal party was introduced. The guests said grace before enjoying the catered buffet. Speeches were given and slides from the wedding played as K-Ci & JoJo’s “All My Life” floated in the air.

The reception was a tender occasion with tradition and love abundant. Speeches were given by the best man, matron of honor, maid of honor, parents of the bride and groom, and the bride and groom. Then, Amanda and Owen danced their first dance as husband and wife to “You Are the Best Thing”. Shortly after that, the cake was cut, and then, the MC explained the Nigerian traditions to the guests. Afterwards, the money dance was held before everyone danced the night away.

It was an honor to spend this special day photographing Amanda and Owen as they sealed their love for eternity and joined their two families. It truly was a picture perfect day with a couple surrounding by loving family and friends. I wish Amanda and Owen a lifetime of happiness and health as they go forward!
